Queen Elizabeth National Park is named after Queen Elizabeth of England and is one of the best places to see tree-climbing lions in East Africa, alongside Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania. The 1,978 sq. km Queen Elizabeth National Park lies in Western Uganda, a 7–8-hour drive from Kampala. It boasts diverse yet impressive habitats and a breathtaking landscape characterized by natural volcanic crater lakes, tropical rainforests, savanna plains, acacia woodlands, wetlands, freshwater lakes, and more.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to over 95 mammal species and 620 bird species. Popular wildlife to watch for on your Uganda safari tour includes leopards, elephants, lions, crocodiles, hippos, antelopes, and many bird species. Your journey to explore this beautiful savanna paradise begins and ends in Kampala.

Itinerary

Day 01 :
Welcome to Uganda & Travel to Queen Elizabeth National park.

Start your day early with breakfast at a hotel in Kampala. Afterwards, meet your driver-guide for a warm welcome to Uganda. Begin your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park to experience its true wilderness and discover why it is dubbed the “medley of wonders.”

Your drive will follow the Kampala–Masaka–Mbarara route, with an expected stopover at the Equator crossing, where you can stand at the point dividing the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Continue your journey to Western Uganda and check in at your comfortable accommodation. Enjoy a relaxed evening, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 02 :
Morning game drive & Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel.

Leave your accommodation by 6:30 a.m. for a safari game drive through the Kasenyi sector, lasting 2–3 hours. You’ll explore the sweeping savanna plains in a 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, sighting buffaloes, lions, leopards, elephants, spotted hyenas, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bushbucks, giant forest hogs, various bird species, and more.

Return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation. Once refreshed, join the group for a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The 2–3-hour cruise offers amazing aquatic wildlife encounters, including hippos, crocodiles, and birds such as the white-billed stork, shoebill stork, saddle-billed stork, African jacanas, fish eagles, malachite kingfishers, and white-faced whistling ducks.

Day 03 :
Kalinzu Chimpanzee Trek.

Enjoy an early cup of tea or coffee, then leave the lodge for a briefing on the do’s and don’ts of chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu Gorge. The tracking begins at 8:00 a.m. with an experienced guide and offers chances to spot other primates such as colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and olive baboons. After tracking, check out of the lodge if you haven’t already and begin your return journey to either Kampala or Kigali city.
